Goodbye 2025, hello 2026

Tomorrow is the first day of 2026, so naturally I'm in a bit of a reflective mood.

Some highlights from 2025...

  • Moved (back) to Los Angeles from San Francisco.
  • Adopted the best dog.
  • Started working at Braintrust as a design engineer.
  • Got really into triathlon. Raced twice and trained consistently for the first time since high school.
  • Read ~12 books, listened to another ~10.

I've been reading Why Greatness Cannot Be Planned, and it's struck a chord with me. I'm not much of a "New Year's Resolution" or "Goals" person regardless, but this book has reinforced that. I prefer to set some direction for what I'm hoping 2026 will hold and let life unfold naturally from there.

Some hopes for 2026...

  • Train smarter and more effectively. Become a marginally-less-bad swimmer.
  • Become a more competent engineer.
  • Read more physical fiction books.
  • Spend less time doomscrolling and more time outside.
  • Only buy things that actually make my life better.
